The PT2262 is a CMOS-based remote control encoder designed to generate serial coded waveforms for wireless transmission. Its primary function is to encode the logic states set on its address and data pins into a specialized digital stream. This encoded signal is then output via the DOUT pin, ready to be modulated onto a carrier frequency for RF (Radio Frequency) or IR (Infrared) transmission, forming the foundation of a one-way wireless communication link.

The encoder creates a “Code Word” consisting of up to 12 “Address/Data” bits followed by a synchronization bit. Each bit’s waveform (representing a logic ‘0’, ‘1’, or floating ‘f’) is defined by a specific pattern of pulses based on the chip’s internal oscillator timing. An external single resistor connected between the OSC1 and OSC2 pins sets the chip’s fundamental operating frequency, which is crucial for synchronizing the encoder with its corresponding decoder.
